Join us for a journey back to nineteenth-century life and the Industrial Revolution with the “Hands On History” Factory System Workshop and STEM-tation! Water Power Tour. We will have a short break between programs for a bathroom break & snack.
This field trip is ideal for grades 3-12, although younger students are welcome.
Cost:
$11 for students
Free for siblings 4 years old and younger
$14 for adults
*Note: we will get a certain number of free adult admissions depending on the quantity of students. Once the signup closes, we’ll split the # of free admissions between the adults and I’ll refund the difference.
Water Power Tour
Harness the power of water that operated mills along the Brandywine River through a walking tour of the Hagley powder yards. Students will explore the evolution of power sources used to manufacture black powder and will understand the principles of energy and power as illustrated by an operating waterwheel, a turbine-powered roll mill, a steam engine, and a new water weight activity. Incorporated topics include gravity, renewable resources, technology, and potential, kinetic, and mechanical energy.
The Factory System Workshop
Take your place on an assembly line to make powder keg labels. During this hands-on workshop, students learn about the development of the factory system during the Industrial Revolution. Every student gets a job on our production line making labels for powder kegs and preparing them for shipping.
